Purpose
To encourage young people to understand, respect and value differences, and contribute to a more inclusive society where everyone is respected and has opportunities to participate.
What we do
FYM promotes awareness and understanding of diversity across ethnicity, religion and belief, gender, disability, and social and economic backgrounds.
Through learning, dialogue, volunteering and practical engagement, young people interact with people from different backgrounds and experiences, challenge stereotypes and develop greater understanding and respect for differences. FYM's current practical work focuses particularly on persons with disabilities, while the program provides a broader platform for future engagement on other dimensions of diversity and inclusion.
Intended impact
Young people develop greater awareness, empathy, understanding and respect for people whose backgrounds, beliefs, abilities or life experiences may be different from their own.
Over time, FYM aims to encourage greater acceptance of differences, positive attitudes and inclusive participation among young people and the communities around them.
What we have done
FYM currently works with disability centers, bringing young volunteers, mentors and persons with disabilities together through digital communication and content creation, arts and crafts mentoring, and support to connect locally made products with potential buyers and markets.
FYM has also supported cultural exchange and awareness activities that bring young people from different backgrounds together to share traditions, experiences and perspectives, encouraging greater understanding and appreciation of differences.
Through these activities, FYM puts diversity and inclusion into practice through direct interaction, shared learning and participation.
Results and evidence
- 85% of participating young people reported greater understanding and acceptance of people from different backgrounds, beliefs, abilities or circumstances.
- 80% of participating persons with disabilities reported increased confidence, participation or access to skills and opportunities through FYM-supported activities.
